About

Julia Tiplea

Hey! My name is Ms. Julia, I teach Marine Science at Ocean Studies Charter School! This is my second year teaching at our school.

I graduated from the University of Florida in 2019 with a B.S. in Marine Science and have been immersed in learning about the marine environment since moving to Florida in 2014. I worked previously in the outdoor education setting at Seacamp in Big Pine Key. The experiences I had there led me to our amazing school, and I am forever grateful!

I am certified to teach Elementary Education grades K-6 as well as Biology grades 6-12. My passion for marine conservation is woven into every field lab I plan, every trip we take, and every class we spend learning about how we can protect our Florida Keys. I love to teach about what I care most deeply about, and seeing my students share that interest has become such a rewarding experience over this short time. Some days, they teach me more than I teach them! 😊 Those are the best days…

My favorite habitats to explore with my students are our mangrove forests. There is truly nothing I enjoy more than exploring the dense and wild mangrove roots and all the hidden critters that inhabit them. Whether we are snorkeling or paddling, it is magical!

I have a FWC Aquatic Species Collections License, am a NAUI Rescue Diver, American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard, and soon to be Divemaster.

I am enjoying the Keys with my boyfriend Nico and our husky, Fox. Our families are not far away, as we relocated from South Florida in 2022. We love snorkeling, SCUBA diving, biking, paddle boarding, exploring, traveling, eating, and sharing laughs every second we can. We are beyond blessed to have the opportunity to live in such a unique place and cherish all that it has to offer to us daily! We love the Keys and we love Ocean Studies!!!
