Skylar Suess

I teach Physical Education, and this is my first year here at Ocean Studies, and my first year living in the Keys. I originally moved to Florida in 2021 from Northern New Jersey. We first settled in Delray Beach for two years before coming down to the Keys. My family and I were making monthly trips down to the Keys and decided to make the move down here. I have not always been a P.E. teacher, I am actually a certified School Counselor, and was a counselor for two years in an elementary K-5 school prior to Ocean Studies. I graduated with a M.A. in school counseling and a B.A. in Psychology.  I love just working with kids and being in a school setting with them watching them grow over the years of having them as students.

My husband and three daughters love just being outside, and that is what motivated us to make the move. We love being out on the water and learning about marine life. Besides being on the water, I have always been an athlete. I grew up playing almost every sport, and if I don't play it chances are I still enjoy watching it! In New Jersey I coached Girl's High School soccer, and again just loved working with the kids learning a sport that I am passionate about myself. Lastly, Ocean Studies was a school that always caught my eye because of how different it was. Being focused on marine life is giving these kids, and teachers, such a great experience to learn and be involved in the environment around us in such a hands-on way!
