Stacey Batts

Hi! I’m Stacey Batts, and this is my 5th year teaching at Ocean Studies and my 15th year in education.

I attended Arkansas State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. I began my teaching journey in Arkansas as a 2nd grade math interventionist before transitioning to kindergarten, where I spent 9 years helping young learners build a strong foundation for their educational journey.

After 10 years of teaching in Arkansas, I was ready for a new challenge. When I discovered Ocean Studies Charter School and learned about the educational philosophies they value—including hands-on learning, marine science-based education, weekly field lab experiences, and co-teaching—I knew I had found a special place to continue growing as an educator. Since joining OSCS, I have continued my professional learning by earning my Reading and ESOL endorsements.

I am also a proud member of our school’s Everglades Committee, where we help teach students and our community about the importance of protecting the Everglades and becoming advocates for this incredible ecosystem.

One of my favorite parts of teaching is witnessing those “aha!” or lightbulb moments when something finally clicks for a student. Even more meaningful to me are the moments when I see students showing kindness, compassion, and genuine care for others. I am inspired every day by the passion, curiosity, and drive our OSCS students bring to their learning and by their desire to make a positive difference for the environment and the future of our planet.

I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of a school community that encourages students to learn, explore, care, and make a difference.
